Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Upon earning her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at Binghamton University, Dr. Carmel began her journey into the dental profession. She embarked on a path that led her through a series of educational and practical experiences, each contributing to her growth and commitment to this field.
She first pursued an internship at The Center for Special Dentistry in NYC, which served as a pivotal moment in confirming her aspiration to become a dentist through exposure to specialized dental practices. Her pursuit continued with earning her Doctor in Dental Medicine from Boston University. During graduate school, she had the opportunity to incorporate digital dentistry into her practice. This innovative approach enabled her to perform a wide spectrum of dental procedures, with a particular focus on dental implant planning and placement. Additionally, she received training in advanced technologies such as Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), 3D imaging, Digital Smile Design, Sidexis, Digital Denture Software, and Clear Orthodontic Aligner Software.

In this high-volume setting, she provided vital dental care to underserved and pediatric populations, deepening her understanding of diverse patient needs. Her commitment to giving back to the community and advancing her skills led her to participate in the Ryan White Program at the Yankee Dental Meeting in Boston. This program focused on providing dental care for patients with HIV, broadening her perspective on the intersection of oral and public health.
Thereafter, she completed the General Practice Residency program at NYU Langone, a fundamental step in her professional development. While there, she provided comprehensive care across various dental specialties, encompassing root canals, dental implant placement, dentures, fillings, crowns, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and emergency dental care. Moreover, she had the privilege of sharing her expertise by providing training to her co-residents on the effective use of CBCT.
In addition to fulfilling the requirements of her residency program, Dr. Carmel actively pursued a series of continuing education courses at the New York Greater Dental Meeting, including “Hot Molars” and “Invisalign and Complex Treatment Planning.” Her commitment to lifelong learning and dedication to patient care, even when credit wasn’t a primary motive, underlies her engagement in these courses.
