What Happens During a Root Canal?
You will receive local anesthesia to numb your mouth so that you feel no pain throughout your procedure. If you are anxious, we can discuss the option of nitrous oxide or IV sedation as well. The tooth will then be isolated with a dental dam before our team begins to enter through the crown of the tooth.
A small opening is created so that we can see the inner layers and chambers of the tooth. We will then clear out any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth as well as remove the infected pulp. Once this step is completed, we will fill the tooth with gutta-percha, which is a biocompatible substance, before sealing the tooth off.
The final step is to capture impressions of the tooth and have a custom dental crown crafted for maximum protection.
